About Land Market

The Index is the reading this site is built to give: USDA farmland value and cash rent, state by state.

The Index reports USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service averages for farm real estate, cropland, pasture, and cash rent. Each state has its own page. The numbers are copied from the published release and from Quick Stats. They are not edited, and they are not a price for any one farm.

The photo location tool is a companion. It reads a picture on your device, asks public geocoders about the coordinates, and links to the Index. The photo is not sent here.

County pages cover 468 counties, the largest by the published market value of land and buildings, with at least a few in every state. A county that is not listed uses its state page. The county figure is the published USDA estimate, not a price for one farm.
